Version 0.1.4 update (content, bugs, balance)
Thank you for your patience, everyone, as it's been 3 months since the last update. We've found 2 new releases for The Tome, 0.0.3 and 0.1.4, however 0.0.3 will be withheld for now as it seems nearly identical to 0.0.2. Find updates about the Project near the bottom. For now, the changes: (These are taken from archives of the developer's original patch notes, paraphrased slightly for accuracy and readability. [text like this represents any additional notes we have added.])
GENERAL UPDATES AND CHANGES
- New DLC available [method of unlocking unknown]
- A New Ending
- Backgrounds to the dungeon, as well as torches located on Floor 5
- Font and text renderer tweaked due to player suggestion
- Added 1 new card (Holy)
BALANCE CHANGES
- -- Goob's overhealed HP drain is now faster, dependent dependent on how much HP she has. This shouldn't affect normal gameplay very much, but Lazarus should be slightly more strict
- + The Boulder post-game card now also reduces the velocity and range of fire bolts that happen to spawn boulders, which is meant to decrease the likelihood of those fire bolts to kill an enemy before the boulder can, which causes the player to miss out on the boosted item drops (boulder kills count as collateral kills, which have increased item drops)
- + Boulders last about 2.5x as long before disappearing than before, if spawned by the Boulder card
- !! Item drops from enemies launch slightly in random directions, instead of falling to the ground, like originally intended
- !! The Bounce card makes the above change more potent (for fun)
- == Slightly reworked Lazarus so he'll generally drop fewer pickups
- == Reduced severity of "Beam" card's bolt stretch
- - The "Elemental Burst" card is now postgame ("Holy" fills empty space)
BUG FIXES
[// Fellas idk abt you but idk if the dlcs are gonna work properly idk tho delete this b4 posting, sam]
- Fixed a bug that yet kept the DLCs from being playable
- Personal time records (given at the end of the game) now actually work
- General changes to improve the physics and reduce (but not prevent) cases where important entities would get stuck, phase out of the map or take damage out of nowhere
- Goob should no longer be able to walljump while grounded
- Bees should now jump towards the player correctly, instead of getting stuck and doing... strange things
- Enemy spawning is much better and they shouldnt fall from the sky or appear suddenly from the ground or anything
- Fixed enemies and the player flickering into red squares on occasion [whenever this would normally happen, Goob will now default to an idle animation]
- Lazarus is now properly resistant to Dark elemental damage (represented in purple)
- Lazarus' name no longer lingers when dying to him and returning to the title screen
Note: Handman's dialogue has been slightly changed. I uh... I didn't do that. Did they... rewrite themself? That's weird. [this is concerning. We tried to delete them again but to no avail.] [// theyre growing too powerful lmao]
Another Note: Title screen is kinda buggy, the DLC buttons sometimes disappear on occasion, or they just take players to locations that only exist on MY computer, so idk what it'll do on other's computers. yeah I dunno. Hopefully this is fine for now [//what do they mean by this, sam]
UPDATES ON THE T.R.P.
On behalf of the team, I'd like to once more apologize for the delay on this update. It's gotten pretty busy over here as of late- not just for the project, but a lot of personal stuff for some people has come up, and most of us are busy with school or work. Please understand that we are still doing what we can to restore this game, as that remains our one goal.
Some good news (hopefully): We've found leads that suggest the original developer is still active online today, so we will be doing what we can to find them and get in contact. If we can do this, finding the rest of the demos should become significantly easier.
To answer some questions from the last post: FakeKipper is the name of the developer of The Tome, as hopefully you have pieced together. We are posting under their name as we think it's simpler to understand than if we were named "Tome Restoration Project" with a different name attached to the game. Also, the trailer for the game is under a channel named "RealKipper" because that's... me. Writing this. I'm RealKipper. Hope this clears things.
Also, to clear some misunderstanding: This game is from the year [// hey sam you never told me what year this game was from acc]. That is why concepts like DLCs , Patches, and the like can be in this game. The aesthetic may have just been for nostalgia factor.
No ETA on next update. Thank you for understanding, and have a good night.
